North Hills International School

Ghana Day at NIS

North Hills International School’s 2023 Ghana Day edition took place on Friday, 3rd March 2023, on the school’s premises. It was a fun-filled event with various cultural displays. Every student, teacher, worker, etc., in the school, was prescribed to wear anything Ghanaian or traditional.

It was a beautiful sight to witness. Some people came dressed in the colours of the Ghanaian flag (Red, Yellow, Green, and Black), others came wearing the finest of sewn clothes and kente, while some people draped the kente/African cloths over themselves, wore traditional beads and scarf (for the ladies), as most Ghanaian kings and queens do.

A few minutes past ten o’clock was when the program began, to ensure everyone had eaten their snacks. Students were made to bring chairs and sit on the terrace while those performing had the playground as a stage. A teacher was the master of ceremony (MC), and he frequently asked some questions related to Ghana, which some students who correctly answered, attained prizes.

There were acts of cultural display and drumming, poem recitals, and singing. It was truly beautiful and encouraging. When the main event was over, right at the forecourt of the school were some local non-alcoholic drinks as well as local snacks being served for free, provided by the school; like asana, sobolo, nkatecake, and many others.

Everything was delicious. It was a good way of learning more about Ghanaian culture. This day made everyone truly proud to be Ghanaian.
