Who We Are

North Hills International School was launched on the 9th of September 2017. It is accredited by the Ghana Education Service and Cambridge International. North Hills runs the hybrid system, which is, the Ghana Education and Cambridge system.

The mission of the school is “To create a generation that is academically sound, enhancing holistic education to meet challenges beyond our time while fostering lifelong learning through detailed curricula that meets International standard”.

The vision is “Nationally and Internationally recognized providing an ambiance conducive to promoting excellence”.

The idea of forming North Hills International School and its academic structure was pre-meditated and pre-conceived by the Board of Directors chaired by Prof. Opanyin Agyekum, Counsel Joseph Ashaley, and Dr. Adu Boateng. The board is made up of various seasoned professionals such as educationists, Lawyers, Engineers, Educational Psychologist, and Doctors.

The board is supported by a strong administrative team made up of the General Manager, Head Teacher, Administrators, and the Accountant who are also well vexed in their areas of endeavors. These are qualified staff holding first degrees in Procurement and Purchases, Communication Skills, Business Administration and Accounting and some are currently pursuing their Masters’s program in Education.

In our quest to impart knowledge, the children are the center of all decision-making. However, the parents who are equally major stakeholders are not left out. We always take their concerns on board since we are building the school together. In this regard, we have set a platform apart from the usual face–to–face meetings with them where they can make their concerns known. This comes in the form of a suggestion box, using our email platforms, SMS alert systems, walk-ins to write into a designated concerns book, etc.

North Hills international school can boast of an ultra-modern facility such as a standard science lab, a well-stocked library, air conditioning in each classroom as well as cameras, a swimming pool, a basketball court, a beautiful playground stocked with Electronic Train, Bouncy Castle, Trampoline, Sea-Saw, etc. well-resourced art room, etc. which creates an exceptional environment.

We keep a small class size (twelve for the preschool and 15 for the primary) to encourage very interactive class sessions with very devoted teaching staff including teaching assistants.

North Hills International School also prides itself in the development of its human resource. Due to this, routine workshops, seminars, and training programs are organized for teachers and the administrative staff to ensure that they are brought up to par with the trending changes in the industry. To reflect this, the school sponsored the best teacher nominated in the school to have a Masters’s program in education and motivated all staff who performed outstandingly well during the last graduation ceremony held in June 2018 where other rewarding packages such as television sets, home theatres, flat-screen TVs accompanies by citations and plagues.

The Teaching and Learning Policy

At North Hills International School, we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that will equip our pupils with the English, math, creative and social skills and knowledge needed to continue their learning and become responsible citizens in society. Attitudes to teaching and learning are essential at North Hills International School as they reinforce the school’s ethos as outlined in the Mission Statement. It underpins the relationship between the staff, pupils and parents and their expectations of each other. To succeed in teaching and learning a clear understanding of the curriculum and its organisation is vital.

Establishing excellent reading, writing and maths skills at an early age is essential. Acquiring higher-level knowledge in most subjects is built upon a sound understanding of language and basic mathematical processes. Our curriculum is based on the Cambridge Curriculum and the Ghana Education Service Curriculum. However, as an independent school, we are pleased to have the possibility to depart from the National Curriculum and do so when we wish to include relevant and exciting topics which respond to current events or to reflect a particular teacher’s knowledge, interests or enthusiasm at the primary level. We ensure that the subject matter is appropriate to the ages and abilities of all our pupils.

In general, most learning needs of our pupils are addressed through our small class sizes and suitably differentiated work in the classroom.

AIMS

At North Hills International School, we aim to promote effective learning through our teaching, to meet the needs of each pupil. We aim that all of our pupils will:

  • Enjoy their learning experiences across the curriculum.
  • Achieve their potential.
  • Gain confidence in their own abilities in order that they can lead full and independent lives.
  • Develop an inquiring mind.
  • Develop an awareness of cultural and social differences.
  • Develop a responsible and independent attitude towards their work.
  • Develop an understanding, tolerance and respect towards other people and their property.
